How to change your time zone in Google Calendar

Change your time zone in Google Calendar on a computer, Android, iPhone or iPad, show a second time zone, and what it means for your Sync2Cal calendars.

Google Calendar shows every event, including your Sync2Cal calendars, in your Google Calendar time zone. Change it once and every event moves to the new local time. You do not need to edit events or add your calendars again.

On a computer

  • Open Google Calendar in your browser.
  • Click the Settings icon at the top right, then Settings.
  • Under General on the left, click Time zone.
  • Click Primary time zone and search for your city or time zone.

To have Google Calendar suggest the local time zone when you travel, turn on Ask to update my primary time zone to current location in the same section.

On Android, iPhone or iPad

  • Open the Google Calendar app and tap the menu icon at the top left.
  • Scroll down and tap Settings, then General.
  • Turn on Use device time zone to follow your phone's time zone, or turn it off and pick a time zone from the list.

The app has its own setting, separate from the Primary time zone on the website. If times look right on your computer but not on your phone, or the other way round, check both.

Show a second time zone

To see times somewhere else as well as your own, for example where a game is played, open Settings on a computer, go to General, then Time zone, check Show additional time zones, and choose a Secondary time zone. It appears down the left side of the calendar grid.

What this means for your Sync2Cal calendars

Sync2Cal saves each event as an exact moment, so it follows your Google Calendar time zone automatically. If you open the settings of a Sync2Cal calendar itself (its name ends in [Sync2Cal]), its own time zone may show as UTC or another zone. That does not change when its events appear: Google shows them in your primary time zone.

Avoid moving synced events by hand to fix a time. The next update can move them back. If times still look wrong after changing your time zone, see wrong event times or timezone issues.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to re-add my calendars after changing my time zone?⌄

No. Events are saved as exact moments, so every event moves to the new local time on its own.

Why are my events right on my computer but wrong on my phone?⌄

The Google Calendar app has its own time zone setting. In the app, open Settings, then General, and check Use device time zone.

Can I see two time zones at once?⌄

Yes, on a computer. In Settings, under General, Time zone, check Show additional time zones and pick a Secondary time zone.
